What is MSM?

MSM is short for methylsulfonyl methane, which is an organic sulfur compound.

Other common names for MSM are dimethyl sulfone and "organic sulfur". The first mentioned name is quite similar to dimethyl sulfoxide (which is DMSO) - but both substances are different from each other. MSM is not liquid, but a solid, crystalline substance. It occurs naturally in human and animal organisms and functions as a very important source for sulfur. Sulfur itself is present as a building block in several amino acids (e.g. methionine, cysteine) and is moreover involved in the construction of hair, fingernails and also skin.
